| May 14, 2010 KAMLOOPS – Kamloops and the Thompson Nicola will receive a total $17,500 from the Province to develop plans for water conservation under the Infrastructure Planning Grant Program. “Managing our water consumption is necessary to main our quality of life in the Thompson-Nicola region,” says Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Terry Lake. “Water conservation is a major priority for Kamloops and these grants will help the region reach its goals,” says Kamloops-South Thompson MLA Kevin Krueger. The Kamloops Water Conservation Rate Design will receive $10,000 to analyse the current water rate structure in preparation for universal water metering. Thompson-Nicola Regional District will receive $7,500 toward developing a Regional Water Conservation Plan. The Infrastructure Planning Grant Program provides grants of up to $10,000 to help local governments plan, design and manage infrastructure. The grants support projects that improve infrastructure sustainability, such as long-term comprehensive plans and studies that assess the economic and environmental feasibility of proposed water, sewer, drainage and transportation infrastructure. In past years, these grants have often led to supporting applications for capital infrastructure projects that have been submitted to programs such as Towns for Tomorrow and the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component.
